FINALLY A MOOSE

Today we hiked about 8 miles along the 3 Lakes Loop Trail.
Again, we saw some beautiful scenery, including icebergs floating in
Frederick Sound from the LeConte Glacier.
Larry rounded a corner on the trail and met a black bear; fortunately
the bear scampered into the woods.
The highlight of the hike for me was seeing a moose; I got a picture
of the moose, Larry only got a picture of the bear's scat to prove he
had met the bear.

LOOKING FOR HUMPBACKS

Sandy Beach on Frederick Sound, Petersburg, AK

Our search for humpback whales was a bust, but we did enjoy walking
the beach at low tide.
I am not sure why they call it Sandy Beach because you had to search
to find any sand.

We also hiked a muskeg trail along the Sound; the ground is like
walking on a sponge.

QUEST FOR MOOSE OR BEAR

Petersburg, Alaska

We went out searching for moose or bear and discovered only rain
soaked eagles.

KC thinks these eagles reflect the state of the union and should be
called recession eagles.

NAVIGATING THE WRANGELL NARROWS

Wrangell to Petersburg, Alaska on the AMHS Ferry, Columbia

We took the dogs for one last hike on the Rainbow Falls Trail before
boarding the ferry for Petersburg.
We walked 900 steps up and 900 steps down to view the falls; the dogs
are pretty tired and should enjoy the 6 hour ferry ride.

WE'VE BEEN TO THE MOUNTAIN TOP

Hiked the Nemo Point trails on the south end of Wrangell.

One trail down to the beach was a natural stair master, 580 steps down
and 580 steps back up.

Also drove up about 1500 feet on a dirt road to get a glimpse of the
view from the mountain top.

Spectacular scenery and a great way to tire out the dogs.

EXPLORING PETROGLYPH BEACH

Wrangell, Alaska

We spend the afternoon exploring the ancient rock carvings at
Petroglyph Beach before exploring some of the fishing harbors.

We discovered a perfectly good boat in the weeds.
